HI Brian. Alastair C here from Strava and Icknield RC. I stumbled across this blog whilst researching a new frame. Was flicking through images of the Cento 1SR and about 200 pics down the page was a bike propped up against the Sharpenhoe sign. Interesting I thought another local Wilier owner! So flicking through your blog I realised that you were same Brian M from Strava. Small world. Anyway I am perhaps going through a similar thought process as you did last year. I have ridden and Izoard (XP version) for the last 4 years and fancy something a little better. Would you recommend the Cento 1SR as a good upgrade. Math Salden in Holland have them at c£1100 which looks like a decent deal. ANy advice greatly recieved. All the best and now back to the rest of your blog - Cheers Alastair
Thanks very much for that. I'm on an XL Izoard but in truth I am between a L and XL. I have just sprung for some Campagnolo Chorus in the PX sale so it looks like the first part of the build is on! Hope to catch you around. I had hoped to emulate your Rapha 500 but can't see it happening. All the best and thanks for allowing the Strava follow . Cheer Al
I shall be out for a local pedal on Boxing Day and plan to do the Dunstable club's charity pedal again this Sunday. Let me know if you're out and about.
Sorry Alastair - we didn't get to meet up; I expect you set off first with the Icknield group whereas my son and I went off last and had two punctures en route, so, by the time we got back, most had finished and already left
I googled the Math Solden site and the 2015 Cento1SR frameset is a bargain. You will have no regrets if you buy it - Kamm-tailed, asymmetric and cabling inside the frame are all the features of top end race frames. The geometry on the Cento is similar to the Izoard however the head tube is shorter so that you can set the bars lower. The first time I rode mine I was amazed at the power transfer and the lightness. With C24 wheels fitted, my bike is under the current UCI 6.8kg weight limit. You get a 5 year warranty with the frameset, but I'd recommend getting your LBS to help you cut the ISP - measure twice cut once! Let me know when you get it.
Hi Brian Yeah I rode down to Tilsworth from Barton and was drenched before I started but to be honest I don't mind the rain! I set off with some of the Icknield gang but Tim, Abid and young Harry were tearing it up so Neil and I settled into our own rythym which at this time of year for me was close to full gas! Rotten luck on the punctures it seems! but it must be nice riding with your lad. I have ordered the best part of a Campag Chorus groupset in the PX sale, so the project begins - looking to decide on a size and colourway next. I think you have persuaded me that I won't regret going with the Cento1SR. i'll keep you posted and thanks again for your advice! ATB Alastair
